Gathering and Planting Prosperity in November

November is often a time of the year in which we are asked to examine what we are thankful for. A time when we come together and gather with our friends and families, whether those we were born in to or those which we have chosen. We remember what keeps us warm and nourished during the colder months. These things may be deep conversations, time alone, hot tea or cider, or long walks alone among wise trees….What keeps you warm and nourished?

During November we may find a little extra time to slow down and reflect. It is a perfect time to gather what we are grateful for, want to keep, and what we want to move forward with. This month gives us space to plant prosperity dreams for the coming hours, days, weeks, months, and the next year. We may start to engage with this idea by journaling about what seeds we are ready to plant and actively sitting with this list on a daily basis, burying it in the ground to bloom, or keeping it close to heart.

Sage, our herb ally for the month, helps us to clear space within our external and internal world to regain clarity and make room for new dreams and possibilities.

SAGE

Sage, also known as Salvia officinalis, is an herb that has been used by many different regions of the world. It’s botanical name comes from the Latin word “salvere,” meaning “to be saved.” Medicinally it has been called a “cure-all”, having anti-septic, anti-bacterial, astringent, and carminative properties. It can be used for hot flashes, night sweats, and sore throats. It’s profile is warming and drying.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Sage is contraindicated in pregnancy. *There are many other ways to interact with this plant that don’t require ingesting!

If using Sage as a cleansing tool in say a cleansing wand or bundle, it is best to use sources such as desert sage as white sage is endangered (white sage also attracts spirits rather than clearing them from the space.)

Clearing & Gathering Spray

  • Sage - 5 drops

  • Clove - 3 drops

  • Lime - 2 drops

  • Himalayan Cedar - 2 drops

  • Use this spray to clear and ground your space and self before meditation, journaling, setting sacred space, or during reflection.

Rumination Tea

  • 1 part Sage

  • 1/2 - 1/4 part Lavender

  • 1/8 part Peppermint

  • Optional: Sprinkle in some Orange Peel or Red Roses (or both!)

This simple tea blend incorporates the balance of warming, cooling, relaxing, and comfort. A blend created to open the body, mind, and spirit to new possibilities and beginnings. This blend helps to create space needed in order to gain understanding and knowledge about where we’ve been, where we want to go, and how to get there.

Directions for tea brewing:

Add 1 tablespoon per cup of boiling water. Let tea steep for 20-30 minutes, strain, and enjoy! Herbalist tip: A french press is a great and easy way to make loose leaf herbal tea.

Happy gathering, creating, and planting!
