High Vibrations with Hibiscus

MIND

The physical qualities of hibis

Hibiscus is a beautiful and versatile flower that not only invites thoughts of a tropical paradise or a cool refuge on a hot summer day, but provides many health benefits when consumed or applied topically. Extremely rich in antioxidants, hibiscus can assist in skin cell turnover and fights against free radicals that prematurely age skin. Its high vitamin C content can aid in collagen production, and it’s a rich source of alpha-hydroxy-acids (AHAs) that gently exfoliate and brighten skin. Hibiscus also has high mucilage content, thus enhancing the skins ability to hold moisture, making it a fantastic addition to a natural moisturizer. Its anti-inflammatory properties are particularly gentle and soothing for sensitive skin. In addition, both the flowers and leaves of Hibiscus make an excellent natural dye, thanks to the anthocyanin that produces its gorgeous reddish pink color. -Kelsey

This mallow-family plant immediately transports you to a fragrant tropical paradise. It is cooling, tartly refreshing and simply brings joy when looking at its sensual flowers. It is a delicious and approachable way to support a healthy summer body…it can balance blood pressure and cholesterol levels, aid inflammation, and help release excess fluid in the body. High in vitamin C, you can certainly get your antioxidants while staying cool and calm. - Isabella

BODY

Hibiscus is a delicate and sensational plant in so many ways. It’s striking fuchsia color consistently draws me in, and as an infusion, moves through the body with a cooling boost of vitamin C. Because of its inherent tartness and acidity, I tend to feel it in the gut and stomach first, like a cool, nutritive rush that also supports the cardiovascular system. Hibiscus tends to invite balance, especially in formulation, as its intensity builds immediately. It is highly antioxidant, and can help lower blood pressure. It’s a wonderful herb to experiment with in both hot and cold preparations, perfect boost for a rainy day or in heated weather as a sun tea. - Tasha

Hibiscus is one of my favorite herbs for tea, especially at this time of year. Hibiscus is a commonly known herb added to cocktails and used to make refreshing beverages. Additionally Hibiscus has many lovely medicinal qualities! Hibiscus is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiparasitic, antiseptic, digestive, diuretic, refrigerant, mildly sedative, stomachic, hypotensive and tonifying. So many wonderful things this Malvaceae family member can offer us!! It can be used as a natural dye as well. Keep your eyes out for Hibiscus this season there are many different varieties and beautiful flowers to be seen. And I would definitely suggest to add Hibiscus to your home apothecary!! - Amy

SPIRIT

On a hot summer evening, relaxing on the porch, drinking a glass of sun tea with hibiscus anyone? Yum! Hibiscus helps cool the body, so it is a perfect summer time drink. This herb has antioxidant effects and supports a healthy heart plus cardiovascular system, which is hinted at by the gorgeous red color. Hibiscus is known to lower blood pressure and eliminate excess fluid from the body through its diuretic action. Many people think it is the flower that is used, but hibiscus tea is actually the fruit of the plant. If you're interested in using hibiscus magically, you can burn it as an incense to create passion in a room, add it to a jar spell to attract love or make a dream pouch to improve your chances of prophetic dreams. -Lilli
