Learning through Experience

Our goal is to give hands-on experience in every aspect of herbal medicine and an apothecary life to those who desire it. Apprenticeship provides a unique opportunity to develop and deepen your relationship with the plants, bioregional herbalism, and vitalist healing traditions.

Community Herbalist Apprenticeship -REGISTER NOW OPEN

July- October 2018

Our Community Herbalist Apprenticeship program offers many ways to learn about plants and their medicines.  Over the course of 12 weeks and 150 hours you will learn materia medica for 30 plants, gain in-depth understanding of how to use herbs for each body system, and how to make a variety of plant medicines. Our immersive weekends help you build a foundational knowledge of herbal medicine, while our hands-on experiences help you integrate and embody your learning. In true apprenticeship style you will learn by doing and by participating in all facets of the apothecary, with one-to-one mentorship. This provides you the opportunity to interact with herbalism in a variety of ways and creating opportunities for enhancing your exposure to health and wellness topics. 

  • 4 Weekend Immersions 10am - 4pm (immersion weekends may be taken individually) *Weekend Topics are outlined as planned, but may change as necessary to accommodate the class. 
    • July 21st & 22nd - Green Pharmacy & Medicine Making   
    • August 25th & 26th - Immune & Cardio-Respiratory System 
    • September 22nd & 23rd - Nervous & Digestive System  Immune & Cardio-Respiratory System 
    •  October 21 & 22 - Endocrine System & Reproductive Health  
  • 3 Wednesday evenings (8/1, 9/5, 10/3) 6pm - 9pm 
  • Weekly Herb Assignments to create your Materia Medica, Medicine-making, and Herbal Skills
  • Monthly one-to-one mentorship opportunities to help you grow your confidence and competence in herbal medicine. Mentorship schedule is flexible.  

Equipment, Expenses, and Benefits:

All handouts and notes are included in tuition.  Books and additional supplies for assignments are not included.  For field trips, apprentices will need a daypack and outdoor gear, including tools for harvesting.  When you contact us we will send you a complete list that includes estimated costs and places to purchase.

Apprentices receive 20% off in the shop.

Registration policies

To secure your spot please submit both your application and your deposit.

Cost: $1800; $400 non-refundable deposit reserves your spot. All balances are due prior to the start of the first class. (Credit Card Payments will be charged 3%). Payment plans and work-trade are available. All payments are non-refundable. 

Students are encouraged to attend all sessions. No make-up sessions are offered. 

Students who complete the Community Herbalist Apprenticeship will receive 20% off registration for the advanced program.

Advanced  Herbal Apprenticeship

2019 dates tbd

The Advanced Herbal Apprenticeship focuses on professional herbalism skills, personal development, practical herbal protocols to support your family and community, formulation and medicine-making. Over the course of 9 months and 250 hours, apprentices experience the seasons of plants, including learning how to identify, harvest, and utilize local medicinal and edible plants.

Our Curriculum:

  • A review of body systems, including herbal and nutritional support for each system

  • Advanced materia medica with energetics and formulation

  • Professional herbalism skills

    • Interview skills

    • Legal scope of practice, referrals, and herbal safety

    • Professionalism, emotional Intelligence, forming a therapeutic relationship

    • Case studies

    • Herbal products and herbs in commerce

  • Bioregional Herbalism Skills

    • Local botany and plant ID using the plant family patterns method

    • Ecology- how to locate stands of medicinal herbs

    • Ethics of plant harvest and sustainable wildcrafting

    • Medicine making in the field

Our Schedule
